The "Queen of the Arabian Sea" has long been a centre for International trade, reflected by the fascinating blend of cultures in this vibrant city. The exotic Mattancherry Palace in particular reflects the city’s close relationships with the Portuguese, Dutch and British.
In contrast, the fascinating Jewish Quarter is home to one of the oldest synagogues in India, as well as many colourful shops selling silks and handicrafts. Head to the harbour area and you’ll even find fishermen using traditional Chinese nets, whilst the beautiful St. Francis Church is where Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama was first buried.
