Northlink Ferries Holidays

For those keen to explore Orkney and Shetland, the team at NorthLink Holidays are delighted to offer a unique range of inclusive holiday opportunities. All our holidays are prepared and managed by local island specialists, and provide carefully planned, high-quality breaks.

Northlink Ferry Fleet

Whether you or your clients are travelling on business, holiday or a short break, they’ll be able to relax in absolute comfort on board one of three new vessels.

Two 125 metre drive-through passenger/ro-ro sister ships operate out of Aberdeen
The Pentland Firth vessel is slightly smaller (110 metre passenger/ro-ro). Each of the three vessels has the capacity to carry 600 passengers plus cars and freight
These ships set new standards for the future and will serve the northern communities for years to come.

These fine ships have been designed and constructed under the watchful eye of the Hebridean and Clyde ferry operators, Caledonian MacBrayne at the Aker Finnyards shipyard in Rauma, Finland. The Aker yard enjoys a worldwide reputation for excellence and CalMac, the technical partner in the NorthLink consortium, has 125 years of tradition and safety under its belt. All three vessels take account of the special demands of the North Sea and Pentland Firth weather conditions

Whether you or your clients are in a public area or a cabin, as you set to sea in one of our two sister ships, you’ll feel like you’re on a cruise. After a gentle snooze, make your way to the main or a-la-carte restaurant and partake in a little breakfast, light lunch or evening meal, all freshly prepared using the finest local produce from the islands. Afterwards, head to the club lounge or bar and perhaps enjoy a cocktail, a fine wine or a whisky night cap. And to keep you amused, a variety of on-board entertainment is available, including live entertainment during the main season and multi-screen viewing throughout the year.

For those with children, a shop and children’s play area are immediately adjacent to these facilities, making parental supervision simple and enjoyable. Cabins mainly have twin beds, although a number with two additional drop-down berths are tailor-made for families.

Northlink Ferries Entertainment

On longer routes all Northlink ferry ships are equipped with modern cinemas showing the latest films. Tickets for the cinema can be purchased in advance, from the Monday prior to sailing, by calling us on 0845 6000 449 and quoting your booking reference number. Cinema tickets can also be purchased at the onboard shop.

Let NorthLink Ferries take you on a voyage of discovery to the islands of Orkney and Shetland.

More people than ever before are using NorthLink Ferries’ lifeline services.

August 2005 was NorthLink’s busiest ever month, with the company carrying more than 44,000 passengers on its Orkney and Shetland routes.

Since the ferry provider assumed responsibility for the Northern Isles services in October 2002, passenger figures for the Shetland routes have risen by more than 40,000, with the equivalent figures for Orkney up by almost 55,000.

In the year to end August 2005, NorthLink has carried 299,384 passengers, compared to the 205,159 carried by its predecessor P&O Scottish Ferries in the year to end August 2002.

While NorthLink is the sole provider of ferry services between Scotland and Shetland, in Orkney there is direct competition for passengers on the Pentland Firth crossing. Nevertheless, in August alone, NorthLink carried more than 23,000 passengers on the traditional Orkney route between Scrabster and Stromness, along with almost 5,000 passengers on the new Aberdeen-Kirkwall services.
